This week we were delighted to welcome Future First to the RSA Academy to talk about the wide range of Careers available within the Food Industry. As part of the session, industry experts Bernadette Coughlan, Assistant Buyer of Men’s clothing range from Sainsbury’s and Sharifa Saleji, Area Manager from Aldi also attended, offering students the opportunity to gain some first hand knowledge and experience directly from employers, and share their personal journeys into employment.
The session explored the concept of ‘Building my Brand’ and supported students to think about all areas of their life and how to sell themselves in an interview situation. They explored the STAR model (Situation, Task, Action, Result) and how to use this in an interview – skills that they can recall on once they move on to the next step of their journey.
Students learned all about how food products come to be on the shelves, and the range of diverse jobs that it takes for that one product to get to that stage, for example, the farmer, lorry driver, product development, market research, finance, administration, HR, scientists and so on.
We would like to thank Future First, and representatives Sainsbury’s and Aldi for giving their time to our students and have a meaningful encounter with employers.
If you can offer some expert advice and guidance to support our students, we’d love to hear from you – please do get in touch on firstname.lastname@example.org
