The RSA Academy Combined Cadet Force (CCF) is an educational partnership between the Academy and the Ministry of Defence.
The CCF exists in over 260 schools and academies, all over the UK, and offers young people aged 13-18 a broad range of challenging, exciting, adventurous and educational activities.
In June 2012, the Government announced the Cadet Expansion Programme (CEP) to increase the number of state funded schools with their own cadet force unit. The purpose of the CEP is to instil values in young people that will help them get the most out of their lives, and to contribute to their communities and country. This means students developing qualities such as self-discipline, loyalty, respect, strong leadership, teamwork and resilience which will help them achieve excellence and shape their own future as they are skills strongly valued by employers.
This mirrors the military activity offered in many of the best independent schools in the country. The RSA Academy is privileged to be selected as part of the new Combined Cadet Force Expansion Programme.
Since starting in August 2015, the 40 new cadets at the RSA Academy have been visited each week by a Sergeant from the Cadet Training Team. He is an ex-regular soldier who has demonstrated to them how to build their own shelter, drill movements, how to care for and wear uniform correctly and recognise different ranks within the Army. During term two and three, he will be teaching the cadets how to safely use and maintain a rifle alongside a range of fieldcraft skills. The staff at the academy have also been working hard to help develop our young cadets and have attended a week-long Army course.
Each year, the cadets will have the opportunity to attend an Annual Camp, often held at Ministry of Defence establishments. These camps offer the cadets the chance to experience life on a military base alongside their peers and teachers. The 2016 Annual Camp for the RSA Academy will be from 23rd to 29th July.
Each month we will present cadet of the month to one of our contingent who we feel has excelled throughout that period in terms of attendance and commitment.
If you are in Year 7 or 8 and would like to Join the Cadet force, fill in our electronic application form, and send it back to either Mr Andrews (Andrews.J@rsaacademy.org) or Miss A Parrott (Parrott.A@rsaacademy.org) Alternatively print the document off and bring it into reception.
